After leaving Las Vegas, we drove to the California border just because it was 1. close and 2. I wanted to visit California again. If I remember correctly, on the road to the Golden State we passed one of the infamous brothels of Nevada. We weren’t there for long before turning back around. I believe this may have been when we actually visited Hoover Dam and Lake Mead before heading onto Utah. Despues de marcharnos de Las Vegas, fuimos a la frontera de Nevada-California solo porque era 1. cerca y 2. quería yo visitar California otra vez. We stopped at both Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park, and I made a promise to myself that I would return to hike them after graduating high school. I’m still waiting. I remember driving through the parks and at one point, I remember seeing a rainbow. I’m not sure where we stayed, but I imagine it was somewhere near the I-15/I-70 junction. Visitamos ambos los parques nacionales de Zion y Bryce Cañón, y me prometí volver para hacer las rutas de senderismo allí después de graduarme del instituto secundario. One of the things I remember about Utah is how our AAA TripTik advised us about 70 miles (112 kilometers) without gas, and how I was worried about running out of gas. A false memory I have that is probably true is that both gas stations had very expensive gas, and I remember the long lines for gas too. Una de las cosas que me acuerdo de Utah es como el TripTik del AAA (un guía especializado lleno de mapas desde una asosiación automóvil) nos avisó que había un tramo de 112 kilómetros sin gasolina y me preocupé de no tener la gasolina suficiente para hacerlo. Un recuerdo falso que tengo que tiene algo de verdad es que ambas gasolineras eran muy caras, y recuerdo que había colas grandes para comprarla también. 

We stopped at Arches National Park before entering Colorado (and this may have been where we saw the rainbow, but I think it was Bryce.) As we only drove through these parks to see the most impressive sites, I would like to return as an adult to hike through them. Paramos en el parque nacional de los Arcos antes de entrar Colorado. In Colorado, we drove through the Rockies along I-70 to reach Denver. It was raining when we got there. I remember more about the next day when we drove south through Colorado Springs to reach Royal Gorge and the bridge there, which, at the time, was the highest bridge in the world at 955 feet/291 metres. We took a cable car down into the gorge, which unfortunately was a mistake that caused my mom to lose her hearing due to the fast change in altitude. It’s why I didn’t return during my visit to Colorado last year. En Colorado, condujimos por los montes Rocosas por la I-70 para llegar a Denver. Estaba lloviendo cuando llegamos. We must have stayed two nights in Denver, because I remember we went through Nebraska. All I remember was an endless cornfield there. We dropped down through the back roads to enter Kansas, where we stayed in Manhattan. I remember it raining here too. It was an important state, as it was the 48th state I had been to. Creo que nos alojamos dos noches en Denver, porque recuerdo que pasamos por Nebraska. The following day was probably a long one. I don’t know if we stopped along the road for a night or drove the 13 hours back. We probably split it in two, but I don’t know how. El día siguiente fue probablemente un día largo. No sé bien si paramos por el camino para una noche o hicimos las 13 horas en un día. 

I remember passing the Kansas City Royals stadium and wanting to stop at the Arch in St. Louis. However, Bill Clinton was making a campaign stop at the Arch, so there was no way to even get off the exits to visit and the Arch was closed for the event. Me acuerdo de ver el estado de los Kansas City Royals (Reales) y querer parar en el Arco de San Luis. Pero no podemos porque Bill Clinton estaba haciendo un discurso de campaña en el mismo Arco y todo era un lío para salir de la autovia y además, el Arco estaba cerrado para el evento. 

It was another great trip. The following year would be a smaller trip. Fue otro viaje genial. El año siguiente sería un viaje más pequeño.
