The time had arrived to start making our way back east. After having breakfast at the hotel, we hit the road bright and early once again. We took the scenic byway, State Route 128, that went along the Colorado River, up to I-70. It offered incredible views of the river and mountains. Ya llegó la hora para empezar la vuelta al este. First stop was in Grand Junction, Colorado, at Octopus Coffee, which was a quaint little coffee shop near the interstate. We stopped again for coffee at Deja Brew in Glenwood Springs, where we turned off for our next stop, Aspen. As a Mariah Carey fan since 1993, I have been enjoying her annual Christmas visit to Aspen vicariously for years. Being there in the summer did not impress me much, to quote her 1998 co-VH1 Diva’s Live Headliner Shania Twain. Aspen is a ski-resort town of 7,000 residents that was also beloved by John Denver. In fact, after we finally found parking, the John Denver Sanctuary was our first stop. I loved this beautiful park. We later explored the town on foot a while. It was a very expensive place so we did our best to avoid the food temptations so we could save money. We stayed in Eagle, Colorado, population 7511, located right off I-70. While the small town was beautiful, it was also a bit unnerving for a gay couple to be honest. Nowhere near as bad as the entire state of Wyoming though. Nos alojamos en Eagle, Colorado, población 7511, a lado de I-70. Aunque el pueblo era bonito, nos daba vibraciones desconocertantes como somos una pareja gay. Pero bueno, nada como todo el estado de Wyoming, que es mucho peor.
We walked along the river a while, which reminded me of the rivers and mountains in Northern Spain along el Camino del Norte. There wasn’t a whole lot to choose from for dinner, so we just ordered a pizza. It was an early night, and our trip was slowly but surely coming to an end. However, there was still one day left of our adventure. Caminamos por el río un rato, y me recordaba de los ríos y montes en el norte de España cuando hice el Camino del Norte. Había pocas opciones para cenar, y por eso pedimos una pizza. Fuimos a la cama prontito, y el viaje estaba terminando. No obstante, nos quedaba un día más de nuestra aventura.

The first mountain I conquered in Spain was the 600-metre 
When I was in Colorado, I had my opportunity to conquer a 3000-metre, the 3485 metre (11,433 feet, I still have yet to conquer one of Colorado’s 14,000ers) Twin Sisters, located between the Rocky Mountain National Park and the Roosevelt National Forest. Cuando estuve en Colorado el mes pasado, por fin, tenía la oportunidad para subir un 3000 metro, Twin Sisters (Gemelas), con 3484 metros, ubicado entre el Parque Nacional Montañas Rocosas y el Bosque Nacional Roosevelt. 
Lucky for me, El Chico was game for my insane mission. We woke up bright and early and enjoyed the free breakfast at the Longmont hotel before setting out on the road around 7. It took us about an hour to arrive, as the road winded through the “foothills” of the Rocky Mountains. The views were beautiful though. Tenía suerte. El Chico quería acompañarme con mi misión absurda. Nos despertamos temprando y aprovechamos del desayuno gratis en el hotel en Longmont antes de irnos sobre las 7. Tardó una hora para llegar en coche, como la carreterra era sinuosa y pasaba por las “faldas” de las Rocosas. 
We stopped in the parking lot at Lily Lake, per the instructions I had read on virtually every guide to the mountain. There was parking across the road, and even a few spaces at the trailhead if you get there early. Aparcamos en el parking de Lago Lily, como dijo en todos los guías de la montaña. Había más parking por el otro lado de la carretera y también había un poco de estacionamiento en el punto de partida para los madrugadores. 
In 2013, Twin Sisters experienced a landslide, and the effects are still there six years later. We crossed the clearing due to the landslide and enjoyed the views. En 2013, Twin Sisters sufrió un desprendimiento, y seis años después, todavía se nota los efectos. Cruzmos un desmonte del bosque creado por el desprendimiento, y disfrutamos las vistas. 
After the landslide, the mountain gets even steeper. I lamented the fact I left my hiking poles in my trunk back in Illinois, where 
All my Camino and hiking experience came in handy, and I was able to finish without too many problems. El Chico, who does Cross Fit four times a week, had to go slower. This goes to show that this is a very difficult mountain to climb. The experienced hikers didn’t have many problems, but newbies were struggling. It wasn’t too crowded compared to many Colorado peaks (Hola, Pikes Peak), but it still attracted a decent number of hikers. Todo la experiencia del Camino y el senderismo que hice en España me sirvió bien, y llegué sin muchos problemas. El Chico, quien hace Cross Fit cuatro veces a la semana, tenía que ir más despacio. Digo eso para mostrar la dificultad del monte. No presentó tantos problemas para los senderistas con experiencia, pero a los novatos, bastante. Aunque no había mucha gente en comparación a otros picos coloradeños (¡Hola, Pikes Peak!), pero aún así había bastante senderistas. 
The views from the top indeed were incredible. I only went up one, as the other one you had to scramble, something that I’m not a particular fan of. We took some selfies and felt accomplished about having conquered a 3000-metre. Las vistas desde arriba eran increíbles. Solo subí uno de los dos picos, como el otro era bastante complicado para subir. Hicimos unos selfies y nos felicitamos por haber subido un monte de 3000 metros. 
The way up took about 3.5 hours, and the way back down took around an hour or so. We arrived back to the car about 1, eager for a rest. La subida nos tardó unos 3,5 horas, y la bajada sobre una hora. Llegamos al coche sobre la 1, muy listos para descansar.
