I woke up, but I wasn’t going to be walking that day. I caught the bus, which was 12 minutes late, and said goodbye to Lalín. All along the ride, I saw pilgrims walking the last two stages of the Camino. I arrived to Santiago, population 98,179, around noon, and I made it to Café Berke for the traditional Tarta de Santiago right before they closed at 1 pm. I had spent a lot of time there my first visit to the city in 2009 and had lost my debit card in an ATM during Semana Santa, when everything was closed. Me desperté, pero no iba a caminar. Cogí el autobús, que llegó unos 12 minutos tarde, y me despedí a Lalín. Durante el viaje, vi a los peregrinos caminando las últimas dos etapas del Camino. Llegué a Santiago, población 98.179, sobre el mediodía, y llegúe a Café Berke por la tarta de Santiago de tradición justo antes de cerrarse a las 13. Durante mi primer viaje a Santiago en 2009, perdí mi tarjeta de débito en un cájero automático durante Semana Santa y todo estaba cerrado, y pasé mucho tiempo tomando café y tarta de Santiago allí.

I went to the hotel, which was a former college dormitory, and it felt like one too. I left my pack, went looking for food, which was surprisingly hard to find. I needed a quiet place, and it took me a while to find one that was serving a menu del día. Fui al hotel, que antes era una residentcia universitaria, y todavía me daba la sensación de estar en una. It was even more anticlimactic than arriving on foot, but it didn’t make the Cathedral any less beautiful. The crowds took away a lot of the magic of the city for me, unfortunately. I had time to sit at the Parador located in the Praza de Obradeiro and people watch over a café con leche con hielo. La llegada era aún más “anticlimático” que la de 2018, cuando llegué a pie, pero aún así, la Catedral es impresionante. Las multitudes de gente quitan mucha de la magía de la ciudad para mi, lamentablemente. The next morning I awoke early, went to Belke for my tostada con tomate and got a piece of tarta de Santiago for the road, then caught a bus to the airport where my rental car was waiting. La próxima mañana me desperté pronto, fui a Belke para una tostada con tomate y también un trozo de tarta de Santiago para llevar, y cogí un autobús al aeropuerto donde tenía un coche aquilado esperándome.

My Camino was over, but I still had some adventures left on this trip…El Camino había terminado, pero aún me quedaban unas aventuras de este viajes…
