Writing these up a few months afterwards means I might forget things, and I forgot to mention that on my second day, I passed an abandoned village that was really cool to explore. It wasn’t much, but it was worth seeing. Nogueiras is a few kilometres before reaching Sobradelo, and it was a highlight of the day. Estoy escribiendo sobre un viaje que hiciste ya hace unos meses, y se me olvido algunas cosillas. Se me olvíde mencionar que en la segunda etapa, había un pueblo abandonado que estaba muy interesante explorar. No había mucho, pero merecía la pena. Nogueiras está a unos kilómentros antes de llegar a Sobradelo, y fue una maravilla.

Monday morning I woke up earlier than usual and found an open bar for breakfast before catching a train. There wasn’t any lodging available for Quiroga, so I had either an impossibly long day, a long day (30ish km), or another short day. I opted for the long day and took the train to Montefurado. Turns out that in getting up so early I left behind my charger adaptor and my shower gel and shampoo. Oops. El lunes por la mañana, me desperté más pronto de lo habitual, y encontré un bar abierto para desayunar antes de coger el tren. Todo el alojamiento estaba completo en Quiroga, entonces, tenia que elegir entre un día imposible (45 km), un día largo (unos 30 km) o un día muy corto. Elegí el día largo y cogí el tren hasta Montefurado. Creo que por la hora tan temprana, se me olvidé la cargador y el gel de ducha y el champú.

It was still dark so after walking through Montefurado (population 100), I had the excuse of using the frontal flashlight. Luckily it was nearly sunrise so it got light quickly, even if the mountain blocked the sunrise. Todavía estaba oscuro. A guy driving along in his SUV stopped to ask me questions about my Camino, and he said I should take the road the entire away instead of the variants. I ignored him and even if there was more ups and downs, the views made it well worth it. Un hombre en un SUV paró para preguntarme sobre el Camino, y me avisó ir por la carretera en lugar de los variantes. No le hice caso, aunque había muchas más cuestas. Las vistas merecían la pena.

I passed another abandoned castle, one that wasn’t so impressive as others along the way, and I arrived to Quiroga, population 3125, around 11:30. My left calf was beginning to hurt a bit, so I took an Advil and the pain dissipated. Vi otro castillo abandonado, aunque no era tan impresionante como los otros por ese Camino. Llegúe a Quiroga, población 3125, sobre las 11.30. Me dolía el gemelo izquierdo un poco, y tomé un ibuprofeno y el dolor se fue.

I coincidentally stopped at the hostal for coffee that hadn’t any room, as it was the first open bar I saw. They did look pretty busy, but they had good tostada. Por casualidad, paré en el hostal para desayunar que estaba completo la noche anterior, como era el primer bar abierto que vi. Había mucha gente, pero también había buena tostada.

After Quiroga, there was a lot of road walking before changing to a trail that went through what was once forest but was now open land due to the summer wildfires. It was devastating to see. Después de Quiroga, había mucho caminar por la carretera antes de cambiar a una senda que pasó por lo que antes era un bosque pero ahora es campo abierto después de los incendios del verano pasado. Era devastador.

I arrived to the Pensión Pacita in A Ponte, in the middle of nowhere, around 14:50, and they made me a meal of churrasco and patatas with homemade cheesecake for lunch. The service here was incredible, and it was well worth the stay. A couple of peregrinos arrived later, but they were not friendly. Llegué a la Pensión Pacita en A Ponte, en el medio de la nada por el quinto pino de Galicia, sobre las 14.50, y me prepararon una comida de churrasco y patatas con tarta de quesa casera para comer. El servicio en la Pensión Pacita era increíble, y vale la pena alojarse allí. Una pareja de peregrinos llegaron más tarde, pero no eran muy amables.

They showed me how to work the coffee machine for the morning before bed, and I rested up for another day of the Camino de Invierno. Me enseñaron como funcionaba la máquina de café, y descansé para otro día del Camino de Invierno.
