The storm from the night before was long gone, and I got off to an early start again, wanting to spend the day walking alone. The French pilgrims (who were nice by the way) that were also staying at the Pensión Peregrino had the same idea it seemed. I stopped at the café and pretty much ran into everyone in the group, most who had stayed in the albergue in the centre of Sangüesa. La tormenta de la noche anterior ya se había ido desde hace mucho tiempo, y me desperté pronto una vez más porque quería caminar solo otra vez. Los peregrinos franceses (eran majos, por cierto), que también se alojaron en la Pensión Peregrino, tenía la misma idea. Paré en el café que estaba abierto y vi a casi todos que estaban haciendo las mismas etapas. La mayoria habia quedado en el albergue en el centro de Sangüesa.

My intention was to take the detour through the Foz de Lumbier, but I missed the turnoff (if there was even one). Sure, it saved me five kilometres, and the scenery was beautiful, but I wanted to go through the tunnel and see the beauty of the variant. However, it turned out to be a good thing to have a shorter day since I did run into a rainstorm that lasted long enough for me to get out my raincoat and backpack cover before stopping. Quería hacer el desavío que iba por la Foz de Lumbier, pero no ví la bifurcación (si habia…) Bueno, me ahorró unos 5 kilómetros, y el paisaje aun estaba bonito, pero quería pasar por el tunel y ver la belleza del variente. No obstante, un día corto me iba bien porque había un diluvio que solo duró lo suficiente para sacar mi chubasquero y el cubierto para mochillas.

That was later in the day. In the first few hours, I passed through some more remote farmland and mountains and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. It was a beautiful early autumn day that reminded me how much I loved the autumn anywhere in the Iberian peninsula. Pero eso fue más tarde en el día. Durante las primeras horas, pasé por más tierra de cultivo y montes y disfruté de un amanecer increíble. Era un día de otoño que me acordé de cuanto me encanta el otoño en cualquier lugar en la península ibérica.

As the clouds began to gather, the Camino went through a few hunting zones, which unnerved me. I passed quite a few hunters. I mention this: if it’s a weekend when you do this stage, you might want to wear bright colours just in case. They seemed to be prepared for peregrinos though, so I’m pretty sure as long as you stay ON THE CAMINO TRAIL ITSELF, you will be fine. Mientras las nubes iban llegando, el Camino pasó por unas cotas de caza, y me puse nervioso. Vi a muchos cazadores. Quiero mencionar eso: Si es un día no laboral cuando haces esta etapa, sería una buena idea llevar colores vibrantes (naranja) por si en caso. Los cazadores pareceían preparados para los peregrinos, entonces, si no dejas la senda del Camino, no vas a tener ningún problema.

I also passed some horses that were in the middle of the trail. También había caballos en el medio de la ruta.

I ran into a pilgrim from Canada, who caught me up on the Argentine peregrina’s 50 km day. We hoped that there would be an open bar or cafeteria, but we both doubted it. Turns out…our doubts were correct. At least there was a vending machine…although it didn’t have a whole lot of options. Crucé con una peregrina canadiense, quien me contó la historia de la peregrina argentina y como iba a hacer un día de 50 kilómetros. Esperamos que fuera a ser un bar abierto, pero no había mucha esperanza. Desde luego, no había ningún bar, pero por lo menos había una maquina expendedora, aunque no disponía de muchas opciones.

The second half of the day was on a long concrete/gravel path that was unrelenting. La segunda parte del día iba por una senda de grava y hormigón implacable.

Monreal is a beautiful Navarran town with a population of 486 residents. I stayed at the Casa Rural Etxartenea, which was an amazing alternative to the town albergue. They have a special price for pilgrims (35€ in September 2022). It’s a beautiful casa rural and I highly recommend it. There was only one bar open, and I had a plato combinado. Later I found out that they did have a menu del día. Monreal es un pueblo navarro precioso con una población de 486 residentes. Me alojé en la Casa Rural Etxartenea, que es una alternativa increíble al albergue del pueblo. Ofrece un precio especial para los peregrinos (35€ en septiembre de 2022). Es una casa rural bonita y os la recomiendo mucho. Solo había un bar abierto en el pueblo ese día, y comí un plato combinado. Luego me enteré que también tenían menús del día.

In the afternoon I explored what little there was in the town and got caught up on rest as the next day would be my final day on the Camino Aragonés…Por la tarde, exploré lo poco que tenía el pueblo y descansé. El día siguiente iba a ser mi último día en el Camino Aragonés…
