Moving Day had arrived. I was about to leave behind a bad year where I had to leave a Ph.D program to protect my fragile mental health, to return back to Illinois and my boyfriend. Long-distance no more. El día de mudanza por fin ha llegado. Estaba a punto de dejar atrás un mal año en que tenía que dejar un programa del doctorado para proteger mi salud mental fragile, y volver a Illinois y mi chico. Ya no íbamos a ser a distancia.

I awoke early on Tuesday, May 31, had breakfast, finished packing up the car and went to drop off the keys. As the apartment office was next to Holmes Lake, my fave park in Lincoln, I walked along side it for one last time before taking my router back to Allo, my internet company (that I recommend). After that, it was time to say goodbye to my favourite coffee shop there, The Coffee House. I still miss them a month later! Me desperté pronto el martes, 31 de mayo, desayuné, terminar de empacar el coche, y fui a dejar las llaves de mi piso. La oficina de la compañia estaba a lado de Lago Holmes, mi parque favorito de Lincoln, di una vuelta antes de devolver el router a Allo, la compañía local de Internet que recomiendo mucho. Después de eso, tenía que despedir a mi cafetería favorita allí, The Coffee House. ¡Todavía la echo de menos!

Then it was the open road. It was a long drive along the back roads, passing through Nebraska farms and small villages. I passed some beautiful places along the way though. I was debating stopping for coffee in O’Neill, population 3705, but I didn’t want to make a left turn on a busy road, so I ended up waiting until Gregory, South Dakota, population 1221. Dayspring Coffee Co. was a great place to stop! Y ahora, la carretera abierta. Fue un viaje largo por las carreteras secundarias que íba por las granjas y pueblos de Nebraska. Vi algunos sitios bonitos por el camino. Estaba pensando en parar por café en O’Neill, población 3705, pero no quería hacer un giro a la izquierda en una calle con muchos coches, entonces, esperé hasta Gregory, Dakota del Sur, población 1221. ¡Dayspring Coffee Co. fue un sitio bonito para tomar un café!

I continued on to Fort Pierre, population 2115, where I stopped to walk around a bit and get my daily steps in (minimum 10,000). I loved the river! I went on to the South Dakota capital city across the river, Pierre, population 14,091. I believe, due to the name, I have been fascinated with visiting here since I was in first grade when we drove through South Dakota and missed it. I understand why, as there is not a whole lot to see or do here. The hotel parking lot was dodgy (but my car was safe). Continué hasta Fort Pierre, población 2115, donde paré para caminar y aumentar mis pasos diarios (minimo 10.000). ¡Me encantó el río! Seguí y crucé el río para llegar a la capital de Dakota del Sur, Pierre, población 14.091. Creo que es por el nombre que siempre he querido visitarla desde mi viaje por Dakota del Sur cuando tenía 7 años y no fuimos. Entiendo porque ahora, como no hay mucho que hacer aquí. El aparcamiento del hotel era sospechoco, pero al final no pasó nada a mi coche.

I walked from the hotel to downtown and then up to the State Capitol with views all around. The building attracts a lot of ducks. After walking around the capitol, I went back down to pass along the river and later had dinner at a local diner (Big Tom’s Diner) with good comfort food. Caminé desde el hotel hasta el centro del pueblo y después al capitolio de Dakota del Sur, con vistas bonitas por todos los lados. El edificio atrae muchos patos. Después de caminar por el jardin del capitolio, volví abajo para pasear por el río, y luego cené en un restaurante local (Big Tom’s Diner), que tenía buena comida de confort.

I went to bed early as I had another long day of driving awaiting me…Me acosté pronto porque tenía otro día largo de conducir el próximo día.
