The year we went to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., 1993, was probably my least favourite of the summer vacations I took with my family. El año que fuimos a Baltimore y Washington D.C., 1993, probablemente fue las vacaciones familiares que me gustaban menos. 

It was short, for one. Second, it was with the Cleveland Indians fan club to see baseball games at the new Oriole Park at Camden Yards. As I hate baseball, especially the Indians, the games were torturous. Fue muy corto, por uno. Por segundo, fue con un club de fans de los Cleveland Indians para ver unos partidos de béisbol en el nuevo Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Como odio béisbol, especialmente los Indians, los partidos fueran una tortura.

The bus left from Cleveland, and I basically only remember the stop in Breezewood, Pennsylvania. I have come to hate that truck rest stop. El autobús salió desde Cleveland, y solo me acuerdo de la parada en Breezewood, Pensilvania. Como odio esta parada de camiones. 

I remember Baltimore being very rainy. I think the hotel, while nice, was in a bad part of town where there was little in the way of restaurants. I’m not sure it even had a pool. Recuerdo que Baltimore estaba muy lluvioso. Creo que el hotel, aunque muy bonito, estaba en una mala parte donde había pocos resturantes. 

The one highlight of the trip was to visit Washington D.C. We went to U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, which is where they make the U.S. currency. I just remember “The Buck Starts Here” everywhere, and I think I got a fancy pen there too. Lo más destacado del viaje fue la visita a Washington D.C. Fuimos donde imprimen las billetes montearios, el U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Solo recuerdo ver “The Buck Starts Here” (El dólar (el “pavo” para los españoles) empieza aquí) por doquier, y creo que me compré un bolígrafo extravagante allí.

We also went on a tour of the White House. While I was hoping to see Socks, the Clinton’s famous cat, I saw someone a bit more famous, President Bill Clinton, taking advantage of the White House’s jogging track. I’m so glad that the only time I’ve been inside was during a Democratic Presidency. También hicimos un tour de la Casa Blanca. Aunque estaba esperando ver a Socks, el gato famoso de los Clinton, vi a alguien aún más famoso, el Presidente Bill Clinton, aprovechando de la pista de correr de la Casa Blanca. 

I believe we had time to see the Smithsonian and the Lincoln Memorial, but I’m not sure. I’ve been to D.C. three times, and they all are jumbled up in my head. I know we didn’t get a lot of time to explore the capital as we had to get back to Baltimore for the night’s game…which may have been rained out. Creo que había tiempo para ver el museo de Smithsonian y el monumento de Lincoln, pero no estoy seguro. He estado en D.C. tres veces, y los tres viajes son una mezcla en mi cabeza. I remember seeing a bit of Baltimore’s port…and that is all I remember about the city. Recuerdo ver un poco de la puerta de Baltimore…y es todo que me acuerdo de esta ciudad. 

It was a short trip, and not very memorable at that. Fue un viaje corto sin más. 

Nevertheless, the following year would be another grand adventure, the trip to end all trips…No obstante, el año siguiente será otra gran aventura, una aventura mítica.
