Last week, one of the crown jewels of Spanish cinema passed away from cancer. Catalan actress Rosa Maria Sardà, at the age of 78, left us after providing us with amazing performances in so many classic Spanish and Catalan films. She also appeared in television and on stage. La semana pasada, una de las grandes actrices del cine español falleció de cáncer. La actriz catalana Rosa Maria Sardà, con la edad de 78 años, nos dejó después de darnos actuaciones geniales en tantas películas clásicas del cine español y catalán. También salió en televisión y  teatro. 

Sardà was born on 30 July 1941 in Barcelona, just after the Spanish Civil War. She taught herself the craft of acting and began doing local theatre and later television and film. She won two Goya Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in the films ¿Por qué lo llaman amor cuando quieren decir sexo? in 1993 and Sin vergüenza in 2001. Sardà nació el 30 de julio de 1941 en Barcelona, justo después de la Guerra Civil. Fue autodictada en actuar y empezó con papeles en obras de teatro locales y luego televisión y cine. Ganó dos premios Goya por Mejor Actriz de Reparto por sus papeles en las películas ¿Por qué lo llaman amor cuando quieren decir sexo? en 1993 y Sin vergüenza en 2001.

She had the opportunity to work with directors like Pedro Almodóvar, Luis García Berlanga, Icíar Bollaín and Fernando Trueba and could be considered a muse of Catalan director Ventura Pons, having appeared in Actrius, Carícies, Amic/Amat and Any de Gràcia. She played Penélope Cruz’s mother in Todo sobre mi madre and appeared in Ocho Apellidos Catalanes. Tenía la oportunidad para colaborar con directores como Pedro Almodóvar, Luis García Berlanga, Icíar Bollaín y Fernando Trueba y se la puede considerar como una musa de director catalana Ventura Pons como ha salido en sus películas Actrius, Carícies, Amic/Amat y Any de Gràcia. Intrepetó la madre de Penélope Cruz en Todo sobre mi madre y también salió en Ocho Apellidos Catalanes.

She was one of my favourite actresses and she will be missed. May she rest in peace. Fue una de mis actrices preferidas y todo el mundo la echará de menos. Que descanse en paz.
