I should be packing for a return trip to Spain, visiting my old home Valencia, my always-felt-like-home Barcelona, and tackling the Camino Aragonés through the Pyrenees of Aragón and Navarra, to celebrate the completion of my master. Debería estar haciendo la maleta–o la mochila–para un viaje de vuelta a España. Iba a visitar a mi hogar antiguo Valencia y el sitio que siempre ha sentido como mi casa, Barcelona, y después hacer el Camino Aragonés por el Pirineo Aragonés y Navarra para celebrar el hecho que he acabado el máster. 

Instead, it’s an anti-climatic finish to two years of hard work and a push into uncertainty not only in my own life but the entire world. Ahora, es un final anti-climático a dos años de trabajo duro y un inicio de incertidumbre no solo de mi propia vida sino el mundo entero. 

I have one final paper submitted, the other one finished but not due until Tuesday (after graduation?), final exams all checked and grades entered into the system for my students, and unemployment waiting for me, although I may not be able to draw it due to being a student. Not how I imagined this era of my life finishing. Ya he entregado un trabajo final, y el otro está terminado pero la fecha limite es el martes (¿después de graduación?), he corregido todos los exámenes finales y también he entrado todas las notas en el sistema para mis alumnos, y ahora solo me espera el paro (que no sé si podré cobrarlo dado ser estudiante)

March 11th was the day things went wild, with the official announcement we were moving to online classes post spring break. The next day had low student turnout, and Friday was a meeting. My boyfriend and I decided to quarantine together, as we thought the shelter-in-place would be more strict and we wouldn’t be allowed to see each other. El 11 de marzo fue el día que las cosas se pusieron serias, con el aviso oficial que las clases iban a ser a distancia y no presenciales después de las vacaciones de primavera. Pocos alumnos vinieron a clase el día siguiente, y tenía una reunión el viernes. Después, mi chico y yo decidimos estar en cuarentena juntos, porque pensamos que sería más estricto y no nos podemos ver. 

I should be writing about our trip to Galina, a unique village in northwest Illinois, and Madison during spring break. That was cancelled, as was our drive out to Toronto through Door County, WI, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Ontario that we were planning for July. Ahora debería estar escribiendo sobre nuestro viaje a Galina, un pueblo especial en el noroeste de Illinois, y Madison durante las vacaciones de primavera. Lo hemos anulado, y también hemos aplazado nuestro viaje a Toronto por el Condado Door en Wisconsin, la “Peninsula de arriba” de Michigan y Ontario que estábamos planificando para julio. 

The job hunt is not going well. I’m looking at teaching Spanish at an independent high  school, but due to the situation, positions are few. La búsqueda de trabajo va mal. Estoy buscando ser profesor de español en un colegio de secundario independiente (privado), pero dada la situación ha pocas opciones. 

While I currently have my health and haven’t known anyone who has died (though I do have friends who have recovered), things change quickly. I hope it remains the case that everyone I know stays healthy, but I’m not counting on it. Aunque por ahora tengo mi salud y no conozco a nadie quien ha perdido su vida (aunque si conozco a personas que se han recuperado), las cosas cambian día al día. Espero que todo siga así pero lo dudo. 

So here I am, my M.A. in Spanish Literatures and Cultures finished…and not sure where I’ll go from here. Entonces…aquí estoy, con un máster de literaturas y culturas españoles, y no sé que voy a hacer ahora.

But Setmeravelles is back. Pero Setmeravelles ha vuelto.
