I was deported from Sweden. Suecia me deportó. 

Yeah. You read that right. Pues sí. Lees bien. 

As someone used to southern European travel between countries in the Schengen Zone, the European zone, it didn’t even occur to me that they would have a true border control, and consequently, I left my passport at my MisterBNB. Como estoy acostumbrado a viajar entre los países al sur de Europa dentro de Zona Schengen, o la zona Europeo, ni me ocurrió pensar que había un control de pasaporte. Por eso, dejé mi pasaporte en el MisterBNB. 

Therefore, as my Spanish NIE was not a valid travel document (despite needing it to return to Europe from the US every Christmas), I was escorted off the train. They wrote up a police report and said I was welcome to return with my passport whenever I wanted and made sure I got on the train headed back to Copenhagen. Entonces, como mi NIE español no era un documento válido para viajar (aunque me hace falta para entrar Europa desde los EEUU en Navidad), me acompañaron a bajar el tren hasta su despacho. Me denunciaron pero me dijeron que no tendría ningún problema si quisiera volver con mi pasaporte y aseguraron que subí el tren hasta Copenhague. 

This made me decide to go to Kronborg Castle on Thursday, and I went to Lund and Malmö in Sweden on Friday. Por eso, fui al Castillo Kronborg el jueves, y el viernes, fui a Lund y Malmö en Suecia. 

To arrive to Malmö from Copenhagen, one must cross the Øresund Bridge via car, bus or train. The bridge is nearly 8 kilometres (five miles) long and if you go by car, it costs 54€ at the Swedish border. If you’re on the train, your ticket price includes crossing. Prior to 2016, there were rarely passport checks but now are a regular occurence due to “European migrant issues.” Para llegar a Malmö desde Copenhagen, hay que cruzar el Puente Øresund por coche, autobús o tren. El puente es casí 8 kilómetros y si vas en coche, cuesta 54€ en la frontera sueca. Si vas en tren, el precio de billete incluye el puente. Antes de 2016, apenas había control de pasaporte pero ahora son todos los días dado a “problemas de migrantes en Europa”.

I first went to Lund, however. It’s a university town of 88,788 residents and easy to explore on foot. It dates back to 990 and the Cathedral was built between 1090 and 1145. The university was founded in 1666. La primera parada era Lund. Es una ciudad universitaria pequeña y fácil explorar a pie. Se fundió en 900 y construyeron la catedral entre 1090 y 1145. 

After getting a map from the tourist information office at the train station, I set off to explore. The city was calm on a Friday morning. I saw the Cathedral and walked through the university. I saw an international food fair, but 11 was way too soon to for lunch (I do live in Spain), so I just looked before a latte at Wayne’s Coffee and heading to Malmö. Después de pedir un plano de la oficina de turismo en la estación de trenes, empecé a explorar. La ciudad era tranquila un viernes por la mañana. Vi la Catedral y exploré la universidad. Vi una feria de comida internacional, pero solo era las 11, muy pronto para comer (vivo en España), entonces, solo miré antes de tomar un latte en Wayne’s Coffee y ir a Malmö. 

Malmö is the third largest city in Sweden with 341,457 residents. The earliest mention of the city is in 1275. Since the construction of the bridge, the city has transformed into a bustling, modern city. Malmö es la tercera ciudad en Suecia con 341.457 habitantes. La primera mención de la ciudad es en 1275. Desde la construcción del puente, la ciudad se ha transformado a una ciudad moderna y animada. 

I didn’t have much of a plan other than meander the streets and see the old and new architecture. I stopped to eat in the main square or Stortorget before continuing my exploration. I found a park on the way to the Malmöhus Castle. The castle wasn’t too impressive, but the park and windmill were. No tenía más plan que deambular las calles y ver la arquitectura, antigua y moderna. Comí en la plaza mayor o stortoget antes de seguir explorando. Encontré un parque por el camino a Castillo Malmöhus. El castillo me decepcionó pero el parque y molino me impresionó. 

I saw the Calatrava Skyscraper (oh how Spain loves to hate him) Turning Torso and went for a walk along the harbour before returning to Copenhagen. Vi el “Turning Torso”, el rascacielos de Calatrava (como nos encanta odiar Calatrava en España) y fui a pasear por el puerto antes de volver a Copenhagen. 

Lund and Malmö are a great day-trip from Copenhagen. Just make sure you take along your passport! Lund y Malmö hacen un buen viaje del día de Copenhaguen. Pero recuerda llevar tu pasaporte.
