Samarucs seems to be giving me a second opportunity to further explore places I saw on my own briefly. Samarucs parece darme una segunda oportunidad de explorar sitios que ya había visto anteriormente pero quería volver.

The hiking section of Samarucs, the LGBT+ sports club of València, recently had an excursion to Chulilla, a village of 632 habitants located 60 kilometres west of València. I had travelled to the village back in March, when I visited the actual village and the castle. I had wanted to do the Ruta de los Puentes (Route of the Bridges), but didn’t have the opportunity. La sección de muntanyisme de Samarucs, el grupo deportivo LGBT+ de València, tenía una excursión a Chulilla este fin de semana pasado. Chulilla es un pueblo de 632 habitantes situado a unos 60 kilómetros al oeste de València. Ya había viajado al pueblo en marzo para visitar el pueblo y el castillo. Quise hacer la Ruta de los Puentes antes, pero no tenía la oportunidad. 

We met at the usual departure point, Torres de Quart, at 8 in the morning. The first of the cars were arriving at Chulilla by 9, and there was only one bar in the village open so early on a Sunday. After a coffee, we headed back past the car park to the actual route. Quedamos en el punto de encuentro de siempre, Torres de Quart, a las 8 de la mañana. Los primeros coches estaban llegando en Chulilla a las 9. Sólo había un bar en el pueblo abierto en esta hora tan pronto de domingo. Después de tomar un café, volvimos al parking para empezar la ruta actual. 

The route is fairly easy. Not too steep, and not that long for experienced hikers. The Río Turia has carved a beautiful canyon, and over the river man has built a few hanging bridges. La ruta es bastante fácil. No hay mucha desnivel, y no es muy largo (para los senderistas con experiencia.) El Río Turia ha erosionado un barranco precioso, y sobre el río los hombres han construido unos puentes colgantes. 

Crossing the bridges is part of the fun of this route. It can be a bit nervewracking as they can sway, so it’s not recommendable for people who suffer from vertigo. The bridges aren’t that high though. Cruzar los puentes es parte de la diversión de esta ruta. Puede ser estresante como los puentes se mueve, y no lo recomiendo a los que tienen vértigo, aunque los puentes no son muy altos. 

After the bridges, we continued to the Pantano de Loriguilla, which was beautiful. It appeared more Asturias in the north of Spain than València. We stopped for a morning snack near the dam. It was getting to be hot, despite the fact it was already autumn. Después de los puentes, seguimos hasta el Pantano de Loriguilla, que era precioso. Parecía más de Asturias en el norte que València. Paramos para merendar cerca de la presa. La temperatura estaba subiendo, a pesar de ya ser otoño. 

On the way back to the village, the sun got hotter, and the crowds grew and grew. It’s becoming a very popular destination for the people that live in València city and is even growing with tourists. Por la vuelta al pueblo, el sol se puso más fuerte y había más y más gente. Chulilla están poniéndose popular con los valencianos, y también está ganando turistas extranjeras. 

The bars had opened, and we stopped at one, Goscanos, for lunch. We ordered drinks…waited about 45 minutes to order the food…and waited about 45 minutes more for the food…we ended up cancelling the post-meal coffee as it would’ve been another hour or two for that. It was crowded with few people for the customers, but still. Los bares estaban abiertos ya cuando volvimos, y paramos en Goscanos para la comida. Pedimos las bebidas…esperamos unos 45 minutos para pedir la comida…y esperamos 45 minutos más para la comida. Al final anulamos los cafés después de la comida, como sería una hora más esperando el café, seguro. Había mucha gente en el bar con pocos camarero/as, pero…

Some people headed back to Valencia, and others headed to el Charco Azul (Blue Pond) before the trip back home. Algunos volvieron a València y otros fueron al Charco Azul antes de volver a València. 

It was another great excursion with Samarucs and a fantastic way to spend the first Sunday of autumn. Era otra excursión genial con Samarucs y una manera fantástica para pasar el primer domingo del otoño.
