It was one of the most memorable days on the Camino. I ended up with close to 200 photos from the day. Era uno de los días más memorables del Camino. Hice casí 200 fotos este día. 

I left at 7, and unlike the day before, when I left at 7 and was the last to leave, I was the first to leave. There was one café open for breakfast in Navia, Café Avenida, open thanks to their friendship with the albergue owner. It was Sunday in summer. A woman from Tenerife whose husband is from Navia also took advantage of the café being open and asked me a ton of questions about the Camino. Salí a las 7. Era el contrario del día anterior, cuando salí a las 7 y era la última persona salir, como esta día era el primer de salir a las 7. Había un café abierto a las 7 para desayunar, el Café Avenida, abierto a esa hora gracias a su amistad con el hospitalero del albergue. Era un domingo de verano. Una mujer de Tenerife quien estaba casada con un hombre de Navia estaba aprovechando el café abierto. Me preguntó mucho sobre el Camino. 

I climbed out of town and enjoyed the beautiful views of sea and mountain, ignoring the industry. It was a day for a beautiful sunrise. The sun would be around most of the day, although it didn’t get too hot. I felt like I was climbing forever, but eventually the Camino leveled out. Para salir del pueblo hay que subir y subir. Disfruté las vistas preciosas del mar y monte, ignorando lo industrial. Era un día de amanecer bonito. El sol me acompañaría por la mayoria del día, aunque no hizo mucho calor. Me sentí como si estuviera subiendo durante mucho tiempo, pero eventualmente el Camino se hizo más plano. 

The Camino went right through a farm with turkeys and peacocks in addition to the usual cows and chickens. El Camino pasa por una granja con pavos y pavos reales en adición a las vacas y gallinas de siempre. 

Around 9:15, I arrived to La Caridad, and I stopped at the bar of the Albergue Xana. I was talking to the woman, and it turns out it was the albergue where C. and M. had stayed. They had talked about me, and the hospitalera gave María a call so we could say hi. It was really an encouraging moment. Sobre las 9.15, llegué a La Caridad y paré en el bar del Albergue Xana. Estaba hablando a la mujer, y me enteré que era el albergue donde C. y M. se había alojado la noche anterior. Me habían hablado a la hospitalera, y ella llamó a María para poder saludarnos. Era un momento muy animador. 

I thought the bridge to be on the lookout for the fork between the inland Camino and the coastal Camino that goes by Tapia de Casariego was right after La Caridad. I was wrong. I kept asking people if I was going on the right way, and they kept reassuring me I was. The Camino did its usual twists and turns. An older French couple just kept on the highway, which for some reason irked me. I know everyone does their own Camino, but road walking is just horrible for me and I can’t understand why people would want more of it. Pensaba que el puente que me habían comentando que era antes de la bifurcación entre el Camino del interior y la ruta de la costa que va por Tapia de Casariego era justo después de La Caridad. No tenía razón. Pregunté a todos que vi si estaba yendo en buen camino, y me dijeron que sí, que sí, iba bien. El Camino hizo sus curvas, subidas y bajadas de siempre. Una pareja francesa, quien eran mayores, solo caminaban por la carretera. No sé porque, pero me irritaba. Sé que todos estamos en nuestros propios caminos, pero para mi, caminar por la carretera es horrible y no entiendo porque alguna gente quiere caminar más por la carretera. 

Oh. Yeah. Because the Camino feels that “the shortest distance between two points is a straight line” is a boring philosophy and wants to add all the curves. Bueno. Sí, lo entiendo. Es porque el Camino cree que “la distancia más corta entre dos puntos es una línea recta” es una filosofía aburrida y quiere dar tantas curvas como posible. 

Right before the famous fork in the road, an elderly couple out for their Sunday morning stroll stopped to ask me about my Camino. They love meeting peregrinos and finding out their story. I love people like this. Justo antes de la bifurcación famosa, una pareja mayor, haciendo su paseo de domingo de la mañana, me paró para preguntarme sobre mi camino. Les encanta hablar con los peregrinos y saber su historia. Me caen muy bien gente así. 

I also ran into my first cross markers along the Camino. I loved them. También encontré las primeras señalizaciones de cruz por el Camino. Me encantaron. 

After the bridge, I followed the coastal route. Before I knew it, Tapia was coming into view. I saw a beautiful beach, and then I realised that right after it was the albergue. It was only about 12.30. Después del puente, seguí la ruta por la costa. El tiempo fue volando, y vi Tapia antes de lo que creía. Vi una playa bonita, y me di cuenta que justo después estaba el albergue. 

I already commented on the albergue. It’s a disaster inside, but outside it has the most beautiful views. There were a few peregrinos already there, but I still got a bottom bunk. I only had one top bunk that entire week. Ya había comentando en el albergue. Es un desastre dentro, pero afuera tiene las vistas más bonitas. Ya habían llegado unos peregrinos, pero todavía había una litera de abajo. Solo tenía una litera de arriba durante toda la semana. 

I showered and went off to explore the quaint village of 3971 residents. It attracts a lot of tourists from the region, so prices are a bit elevated. It was hard to find a decent, cheap place to eat. Me duché y fui a explorar el pueblo pintoresco de 3971 habitantes. Siempre hay muchos turistas de la región, y los precios son elevados un poco. Era difícil encontrar un sitio bueno, bonito y barato para comer. 

After lunch I went for a walk around the coast and down to the lighthouse. The clouds were coming in, but the rain stayed away (to come again another day, the next day.) I was super excited to see Galicia in the distance. Después de comer, fui por un paseo por la costa y hasta el faro. Los nubes ya estaban entrando, pero no había lluvia hasta el próximo día. Me emocioné mucho ver Galicia en la distancia. 

I didn’t know any of the pilgrims, and I felt a bit lost. There were a few nice ones, including an Italian who did 40 kilometre days, the Dutch man returning to the Netherlands after walking from his home along the Camino Francés, and a few others, but I missed my usual peregrinos. No conocí ninguno de los peregrinos y me sentí perdido. Había unos majos, incluso una italiana que hizo 40 kilómetros todos los días, el holandés que estaba volviendo a su país después de caminar desde su casa por el Camino Francés, y más, pero echaba de menos los peregrinos de siempre. 

Despite the lack of facilities, I slept well that night. The next was going to be my last Camino day for now. I was hoping to return to it in August, but…A pesar de la falta de facultades, dormí bien esta noche. El próximo día iba a ser el último día del Camino por ahora. Estaba esperando volver en agosto, pero…

Maybe one day I’ll arrive to Santiago. Quizás algún día llegaré a Santiago.
