Anyone who has been to Valencia knows that the old river bed has been converted into a 7-kilometre or so long park with the Ciutat de Arts i Ciencies at one end and the Bioparc Zoo at the other end. It has taken me this long to discover what lies beyond Bioparc. (The new River Turia bed lies just outside the city, where it was diverted after the flood in 1957.) Cualquier persona quien ha visitado la ciudad de Valencia sabe que el cauce antiguo del Río Turia era convertido a un parque (Jardines de Turia) de unos 7 kilometros con la Ciudad de Artes y Ciencias por un lado y  el zoo Bioparc por el otro lado. Me ha tardado hasta ahora para descubrir que hay más allá del Bioparc. El cauce nuevo es justo fuera de los limites de la ciudad, donde era divertido después de la gran inundación de 1957. 

I was itching to be out in nature. I’m trying to save money right now, so I wasn’t really wanting to go anywhere for hiking, so I decided to see just what was around the river bend. Tenía muchas ganas estar en la naturaleza. Quiero ahorrar dinero en este momento, y por eso no quería ir a un sitio para hacer senderismo. Entonces, elegí ver que había más allá del Parque Cabecera. (Estaba buscando Pocahontas en castellano, pero el nombre de la canción es “Río Abajo”, que no tiene mucho sentido aquí.) 

I found out the river is 30 kilometres of paths. I only took it to Quart de Poblet. The Parque de Cabecera, next to Bioparc, was lovely as always. I continued and entered the Parque Fluvial. Me enteré que el río tiene 30 kilometros de senderos. Solo fui hasta Quart de Poblet. El Parque de Cabecera, a lado de Bioparc, estaba chulo como siempre. Seguí y entré el Parque Fluvial del Turia. 

I stopped in Quart de Poblet because I knew there was a metro and I wasn’t really dressed for the 11 km  hike one way to the dam. I will save it for another day. Paré en Quart de Poblet porque sabía que había un metro y no estaba preparado para un sendero de 11 kilometros ida a la presa. Ya lo haré otro día. 

It was good to get back on the trails though. Estaba bien volver a los senderos.
