Over the past few years, I’ve been relying more and more on a service called “Blablacar”. It’s a great service that helps connect travelers with common destinations find each other and split the costs. While buses, trains and planes keep going up in price and hassle, Bla Bla Car is a great service for ride sharing. You can search for a trip to a place you’re going and find a list of cars going to the same place and for how much the trip will cost you. You pay, they accept and you make plans for the meeting point. It’s as easy as that. Durante los últimos años, más y más he estado usando un servicio llamado “BlaBlaCar” Es un buen servicio que ayuda a los viajadores conocer otros viajadores con destinos en común para compartir gastos. Mientras los autobuses, trenes y vuelos siguen subiendo en precio y líos, Bla Bla Car es un buen servicio para “ridesharing” (compartir coche). Se puede buscar un viaje al destino donde va y encontrar una lista de coches que van al mismo sitio y cuanto el viaje costaría. Se paga, y el conductor se acepta el viaje y después se hacen planes para quedar. Es tan fácil.
People usually give ratings to drivers and passengers alike, so the system of trust is built. If someone is a bad driver or something crazy happens, the review will reflect that. If something horrible happens, you can report it to Bla Bla Car and they will take down the profile. Los usarios suelen clasificar a los conductores y pasajeros para crear un sistema de confianza. Si alguien es mal conductor o algo loco pasa, la clasifación dirá eso. Si algo malo pasa, se puede informar a Bla Bla Car y quitarán el perfil.
I’ve had a lot of great experiences so far with Bla Bla Car. I’ve met some nice people and had a few adventures, like the time the driver got lost in Bilbao and we ended up having to go to Madrid via Santander. My trip back from León in December was done with Bla Bla, and due to me needing a bathroom break, the driver and I happened to stumble upon a beautiful reservoir in the mountains of Cantabria near Reinosa. He tenido mucha suerte y buenas experiencias con Bla Bla Car. He conocido a alguna gente maja y he pasado unas aventuras. Por ejemplo, una vez el conductor se perdió por Bilbao y acabamos yendo a Madrid por Santander. Durante el viaje de León a Bilbao en diciembre, yo tenía que usar el baño, y el conductor tomó una salida por Reinosa. Encontramos un embalse preciosa en los montes cerca de Reinosa.
Cars are much more comfortable than buses and trains in my opinion, and it can save time too as buses which take forever. Creo yo que los coches son más cómodos que los autobuses y trenes, y puede ahorrar tiempo también como los autobuses suelen tardar mucho más tiempo.
Another relatively new service (in the 2010s) is AirBnB. People with an extra room can advertise it and rent it out to travelers. It’s similar to Couchsurfing, but you pay for the spare room. Even Mariah Carey has been using it. Travelers log into the site, and they have options to set the price and look at the map to see how far it is from the city centre and other things. Hosts post pictures of their place. You pay upfront when you reserve the room, which is handy for me knowing I don’t have to worry about having x amount of cash when I check in. Otro servicio bastante nuevo (de los años 2010) es AirBnB. Si a alguien le sobra una habitación, se puede poner un anuncio para aquilerla a viajadores. Es algo parecido a Couchsurfing, pero pagas por la habitación. Incluso la cantante Mariah Carey usa AirBnB. Los viajadores se apuntan al sitio web, y tienen opciones para poner precio y mirar el mapa para ver la distancia desde el centro de la ciudad y más cosas. Los anfitriones suben fotos de su casa. Pagas cuando haces la reserva, que es útil para mi para saber que no tengo que disponer de esos euros cuando hago check in.
AirBnB also works based on user reviews. A well-reviewed place will continue to receive well-reviewed guests, whereas if someone gets a bad review, they won’t be keen on hosting or staying with the person. I’ve only done AirBnB once, but I’m already a convert. It was in León in December, and it worked liked a charm. It was about 10 minutes walking from the city centre and the bus and train stations, and it was great to explore. The guy was traveling himself, so I had the apartment to myself. He was super friendly and did everything he could to make sure it felt like home before he went traveling. Sólo he usado AirBnB una vez, pero ya estoy enganchado. Fue en León en diciembre, y funcionó bastante bien. Estaba úbicado unos 10 minutos desde el centro de la ciudad y también desde la estación de autobuses y trenes. Era bien comunicado para explorar. El chico también estaba viajando, entonces, tenía el piso para mi mismo. Era muy majo y hizo todo lo posible para hacerme sentir en casa antes de se marchó.
In a world where prices keep increasing, it’s great to know that there are like-minded people willing to help their fellow travelers out. I recommend both AirBnB and Bla Bla Car to anyone traveling in Spain or wherever these services exist. En un mundo donde los precios siguen subiendo, es bueno saber que hay gente que piensan igual que quieren ayudar a los otros. Os recomiendo ambos AirBnB y Bla Bla Car si vas a viajar por España o en cualquier sitio que dispone de estes servicios.
