Dec. 19, 2015, in the so-called Capital of the World Bilbao, it was 23ºC (73.4ºF). One has to take advantage of this crazy weather. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been to the mountains, so I went to some close by. El 19 de diciembre de 2015, en el dicho Capital del mundo Bilbao, hizo 23º. Hay que aprovechar este tiempo loco. Hace unas semanas sin ir al monte, entonces fui a un monte cerca a Bilbao. 

I was trying to follow a route from BiendeAltura, but when I arrived in Gueñes, a half hour train ride from Bilbao on FEVE, I followed a sign saying “Sodupe.” Iba a seguir una ruta de Biendealtura, pero cuando llegué en Gueñes, una media hora en el FEVE desde Bilbao, seguí un señal que dijo “Sodupe”. 

It ended up taking me on a reverse Camino de Santiago, the stretch that goes leaves the Camino del Norte to take you to the Camino Frances near Burgos. The Camino, no matter what, is my zen, and although it wasn’t a Camino day or a Camino I’m doing, nor was even in the direction of the Camino, I was quite happy to find it. Me encontré en un Camino de Santiago, pero al dirección contraria. Es la parte que te lleva desde el Camino de Norte hasta el Camino Frances cerca de Burgos. El Camino siempre será mi zen, y aunque no era un día del Camino o un Camino que estoy haciendo, ni estaba yendo en la dirección hasta Santiago, me puse contento haber encontrar este Camino por casualidad. 

The route from Gueñes to Sodupe is only five kilometres, but it’s a nice five kilometres and a great way to dip my feet back into hiking after a few weeks away from my hobby. The Basque farms are always a delight to see. I had time for a quick café con leche before catching the train back to Bilbao. La ruta de Gueñes hasta Sodupe solo es 5 kilometros, pero es 5 km bonitos y una buena manera de volver al sendersimo después de unas semanas sin mi afición. Los caserios vascos siempre son un placer ver. Me dio tiempo para tomar un relaxing café con leche antes de coger el tren a Bilbao. 

There is so much beauty to discover in Euskadi, and I’m really thankful that the rain has held off for a bit this autumn. Happy veroño! (Veroño is summer-autumn). Hay tanta belleza para descrubir en Euskadi, y estoy agradecido que la lluvia todavía no ha llegado este otoño. ¡Feliz veroño!
